Pagans and Christians: The Medieval Cult of Relics
Lectures at The Met (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, colloquially “the Met”, located in New York City, is the largest art museum in the United States and among the most visited art museums in the world)
These video lectures explain the elements and universal sacred language of our subconscious archetypes universally utalised by the creators of sacred treasures. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Eternal Ancestors: The Art of the Central African Reliquary,” these lectures examine the legacy of the greatest artistic movement. “The Sacred Art Movement.” They address the larger significance of the most celebrated sculptural works by considering the historical context and spiritual impetus for their creation, their impact on the Western avant-garde, and parallels with other major world traditions.
